Introduction to Assistive Technology for New Clinicians
Overview
This introductory CPD session is designed to build confidence and foundational clinical reasoning skills for clinicians prescribing Assistive Technology (AT). The session focuses on clinical benefits and considerations to inform clinical reasoning in selection of commonly prescribed equipment.
Participants will gain a practical overview of Assistive Technology across mobility, transfers, seating and pressure care with a strong emphasis on client-centred decision making, safety and funding considerations.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Define Assistive Technology and its role in supporting function, safety and participation
- Apply basic clinical reasoning to identify appropriate AT solutions aligned with client goals
- Understand clinical benefits and considerations of commonly prescribed AT
- Identify common risks and safety considerations related to AT prescription and use
- Discuss AT options with clients, families and support staff with greater confidence
