Mobility scooters provide an invaluable mobility option for clients who can safely use them. They enable individuals to stay connected with their community and maintain their usual occupations, enhancing independence and quality of life.

Occupational therapists are often regarded as the experts in mobility scooter assessment, responsible for evaluating user capacity and supporting funding applications. For allied health professionals new to mobility scooter prescription, and those wanting to refresh their knowledge, understanding the assessment domains, clinical benefits, and key considerations is essential to supporting clients’ mobility goals.

Join us for a live-streamed session by Aidacare’s Clinical Training Team, followed by a hands-on practical session to explore the clinical pathway for mobility scooter assessment, selection, trialling, and solutions for safe use.

Learning Objectives:
After attending, you will be able to:

1. Recognise the skills required for safe scooter operation
2. Evaluate the clinical benefits and considerations of various scooter features and accessories
3. Apply the Person – Environment – Occupation (PEO) Model to assist with scooter selection
4. Make practical scooter adjustments (e.g., seat armrest, seat width, floor-to-seat height)
5. Promote safe scooter use across different terrains
6. Conduct routine safety checks, and understand battery care, and preventative maintenance
7. Collaborate effectively with Equipment Specialists to maximise trial outcomes
8. Discover what’s new in Aidacare’s Mobility Scooter range
9. Access resources to assist with assessment, prescription and training

Presenters:
This session is presented by the Aidacare Clinical Training and Development Team, comprised of experienced Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. With backgrounds across community, aged care, acute care, and complex seating, the team is passionate about assistive technology and supporting therapists in selecting the right equipment to enhance end-users’ independence and quality of life.
