Seating Matters, Tool-Time & Learning Through Exploration
Objectives:
- Identify the product range and the clinical benefits available with the Seating Matters range
- Build on confidence with being able to effectively make small adjustments to clients wheelchair set ups.
- Gain more of an insight into what being in a wheelchair means for our clients.
SESSION 1. SEATING AND POSITIONING – THE CLINICAL EFFICACY OF SPECIALISED SEATING
This session will cover best practices and the evidence supporting specialised seating, particularly as it relates to pressure care, posture and 24-hour positioning. Participants will learn about the latest clinical research supporting specialised seating and the four principles of pressure management. The session will also include a practical demonstration of the Seating Matters range of chairs and how they can be used to correctly seat clients with complex needs.
Presented by Adrian Cominotto, Seating Matters
SESSION 2. BASIC ADJUSTMENTS ON A WHEELCHAIR – TOOL-TIME
As therapists you will often come across times when you know your client could benefit from their lateral supports being raised, footplates adjusted or headrest tweaked. In this workshop you will gain the confidence to do these small adjustments plus so much more during our tool-time session. Small adjustments that have MASSIVE impact.
SESSION 3. LEARNING THROUGH EXPLORATION
Having the opportunity to operate a powerchair or power assist device can be quite rare for many therapists. We want you to come along and actually have a go. Physically sit in a chair that is intentionally not set up correctly for you and see what it does to your posture. By doing so, you will gain a greater understanding of what options might actually enable or even limit your clients abilities.
