1. FOLDING AND TILTING MANUAL WHEELCHAIRS

What should we be thinking about when we are prescribing a folding wheelchair? Should we be looking at a tilt in space wheelchair? Why does the client want or need the chair to fold? Who and what do we need to consider? What set-up and options are going to be important for the user and carers. These are some of the questions we will look at through examining some of the folding and tilting wheelchairs which are on the market today.

Presented by Andrew Rousham, Paragon Mobility

2. AN ALTERNATE ROUTE TO INDEPENDENCE – CLINICAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR ALTERNATE DRIVE CONTROLS ON POWERED WHEELCHAIRS

This presentation delves into the essential considerations for implementing alternate drive controls in powered wheelchairs, emphasising their profound impact on promoting independence and enhancing the overall quality of life for individuals with diverse mobility challenges. This presentation outlines the key evaluation criteria, including range of motion, strength, coordination, and cognitive abilities, which guide healthcare practitioners in tailoring the technology to match each patient’s unique needs. We will deep dive into the different types of alternate controls and their features, all which contribute to reducing physical strain and enhancing driving and independence. As healthcare professionals and clinicians, understanding the clinical aspects of alternate drive controls is crucial for facilitating effective and personalised mobility solutions that empower users to achieve greater autonomy.

Presented by Kathleen Sodder, Quantum

3. OVERSIGHT OF POWERED WHEELCHAIR DIRVE WHEEL POSITIONS

During today’s session we’ll look at the varying wheelbase configurations and the impact these can have on our client’s and their functional outcomes. Discussion will be had around these varying designs and the impact they can have regarding access to areas such as home, work, local environments, or more challenging terrain. We’ll discuss base selection and drive controls and how we can ensure equipment selected is fit for purpose. Participants will leave the session more confident in their assessment processes regarding base selection for their clients.

Presented by Scott Staunton, Magic Mobility

4. RIGID FRAME WHEELCHAIRS + SEATING FUNCTIONS

In this session we will compare mono and dual tube MWC frames and why one may be considered over another. We will also review key points to consider when prescribing a MWC to maximise ADL participation and functional mobility.

In this Seating Functions session, we will review the different power seat functions and the functional benefits they can have with reference to the relevant evidence-based practice.
