Kindly hosted at Access Rehabilitation Equipment Showroom by
Access Rehabilitation Equipment, Traralgon
As seating prescribers, we are facilitating an intervention which should be designed to address a problem, it is in fact a problem-solving exercise. In order to accurately diagnose any problem, an assessment must first be carried out, to establish what is happening and why. Only then, with this information available, can we start to consider what products will work for our clients, building an idea of what our prescription will be.
The Mechanical Assessment Tool (MAT) is a musculoskeletal examination which is designed to gather the essential biomechanical data we require to address the seating needs of our clients. This data provides us the opportunity to analyse our clients, interpreting how our findings relate to muscle length, joint flexibility, posture, and other key variables in relation to their seated position.
This session will walk through the components of the MAT assessment, from the moment the client comes through the door, to the physical evaluation and translation of findings into product features.
Learning Objectives:
-
- What is the MAT?
- What steps does the MAT comprise of for a thorough physical evaluation?
- How do human biomechanics impact on our seating prescription?
- How to analyse posture and postural deviations within each plane of motion
- Translate findings from assessment into seating needs and prescriptions.
- Develop practical skills to put the knowledge presented into clinical practice.
Please note: Attendees to bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing for this session.
